Abstract: Controlled mechanical ventilation leads to diaphragmatic contractile dysfunction and atrophy. Since proteolysis is enhanced in the diaphragm during controlled mechanical ventilation, we examined whether the administration of a proteasome inhibitor, bortezomib, would have a protective effect against ventilator-induced diaphragm dysfunction.
