Abstract:

Sexual problems and disorders are highly prevalent and cause much sorrow. Cognitive-behavioral therapies have developed greatly since approximately 1960. Until now, only a few articles in Gedragstherapie have covered sexual problems or disorders. The goal of a double special issue of Gedragstherapie is to review cognitive-behavioral interventions for sexual problems and sexual disorders. In this introduction the history of cognitive-behavioral treatments of sexual problems and disorders is described. Theoretical models that grounded the current cognitive-behavioral treatments of sexual problems and disorders are reviewed too. Finally, an overview is given of the different contributions to this special double issue. In the first issue the following topics are covered: sexual dysfunction, homo-affirmative therapy, and perpetrators of sexual assault or violence. In the second issue attention is paid to: sexual traumas, hypersexuality, and paraphilias. Each topic is reviewed in a separate article, followed by clinical illustrations (in a second article).
