Abstract: Faculty in language departments engage in "research and creative activities." These are generally understood to mean the publication of books or articles in a field of study; included in creative activities can be literary works or even translations of literary or scholarly works. When coming up for tenure or sabbatical leave, one must show a fairly well-developed project or agenda of one of the above-mentioned activities. But what about developing courseware or pedagogical tools for teaching? We will examine the requirements and policies of our various institutions to see how our work fits in with their overall goals.
