Abstract:

The design sensitivity analysis and optimization on an unbounded vibro-acoustic problem is presented where the wave based method is used for solving the acoustic response. The struc-tural dynamic response of a cube-like structure is computed with the finite element method. Then the structural response is exported to the acoustic wave based model as velocity bound-ary condition. An acoustic pressure field point perpendicular to the center of the vibrating panel is selected as an objective function and the differentiation of the pressure with respect to the thickness of each element of the vibrating panel is obtained by the design sensitivity analysis approach. Here the adjoint variable method is used in the sensitivity formulation due to its computational efficiency. Through the design optimization based on the sensitivity re-sults, the optimum structural design reducing the noise from the vibrating panel is obtained.
