Title: The Why and How of Radioactive-Beam Research
Issue Date: 2004
Publisher: Springer-Verlag
Series Title: Lecture Notes in Physics vol:651 pages:1-32
Abstract: Research with radioactive ion beams has entered in the last decade a new era with the advent of energetic beams of radioactive nuclei which can induce nuclear reactions. The why and how of this research is discussed by presenting
the open physics questions, the milestones in the exploration of the nuclear chart with special emphasis on obtained insight and knowledge also highlighting the experimental achievements and challenges. An outlook on the next generation of radioactive beam facilities concludes this lecture.
