The spectroscopic properties of uranyl nitrate complexes in aqueous solution are described. Absorption spectra in the range of 20 000-28 000 cm(-1) are recorded. Three different complexes are formed: UO2NO3+, UO2(NO3)(2) and UO2(NO3)(3)(-). A computer routine was written to calculate the concentrations of the different species in solution. The molar absorptivity of each species at each wavelength is determined. The calculated spectra are compared with literature data. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
