Abstract: This working paper presents de outcomes of a workshop on Action Research that was organised by PSO on 29 March 2011. The workshop resulted from the realisation within PSO that different programmes were experimenting with different types of action research for some time, but with limited exchange of good practices and no shared ‘mental models’ on PSO’s approach. Action research is used within the Thematic Learning Programmes (TLP) of PSO. A TLP is a series of learning activities undertaken by member organisations to respond to a central learning question. This learning question is related to specific aspects of capacity development. At the time of writing, PSO had 5 thematic learning programmes up and running. The workshop had three main objectives: (1) mapping the current PSO approach to action research in 5 TLPs; (2) identifying essential elements of PSO’s approach; (3) identifying follow-up activities to arrive at an improved and shared practice.
