Abstract: A 64-year-old female patient, diagnosed with bipolar disorder, developed parkinsonism 18 days after aripiprazole had been initiated. Twenty-six days after the patient had stopped taking aripiprazole the parkinson syndrome disappeared completely. Aripiprazole is usually associated with a low incidence of extrapyramidal symptoms. So far, little is known about the pathophysiology of parkinsonism and the possible role of aripiprazole. The case-study includes some hypotheses and recommendations.
