Abstract: Introduction & Objectives
Storage lower urinary tract symptoms due to reduced functional bladder capacity negatively affect the quality of life of patients with cystitis, bladder outlet obstruction and overactive bladder. Unfortunately, current therapies are often unsatisfactory in symptom relief and side-effect profile. The transient receptor potential channel TRPV4 is highly expressed in urothelial cells and plays a role in sensing the filling state of the bladder. Here, we study the function of TRPV4 in bladder dysfunction and its potential as a pharmacological target to treat functional bladder disorders.
