Abstract: The paramagnetic susceptibilities of the 1.5%-doped LiYF4:Nd3+ single crystal were re-recorded using a SQUID in the temperature range from 1.7 K to 300 K. The anisotropic values chi(parallel to) and chi(perpendicular to) are simulated by means of optimised crystal field wave functions inserted in the Van Vleck formula. The agreement between the simulated and experimental data is satisfying, especially in the low temperature range. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
