Abstract:

First some scales, which may be used to evaluate (late) whiplash, are proposed. The European scale and the Quebec Task Force classification (1995) asadapted by the Neck Pain Task Force (2000-2010), are useful. Still a single-handed recipe to evaluate the consequences of whiplash does not exist. Good clinical and reasonable practice are furthermore indicated. In a second chapter we focus on the difficulties to find a balance between claim and expectations of the victim on the one hand and the estimated damage by the insurance company on the other. In a third chapter the different legislation used in Belgium concerning the type of the accident (either at work or not) is explained. Finally some oneliners and a message to the different parties involved (victim, treating team, insurance doctors) are given. Goal of the article is to take care that medicolegal aspects of whiplash do not influence its evolution negatively.
