Abstract: Equiatomic RuNb and RuTa alloys exhibit a shape memory effect (SME) and high transformation temperatures (>800 degrees C). Controlling the transformation temperatures while retaining the SME can be achieved either by changing the alloy composition or by adding a ternary element such as Fe. Eight alloys are investigated. The SME decreases with decreasing Ru content, which is in accordance with the evolution of the lattice parameters of martensite. (C) 2011 Acta Materialia Inc. Published by Elsevier Ltd.
