Abstract: The development and implementation of a care pathway is a complex intervention. One of the goals is to standardize the
interprofessional teamwork. During the development of the care pathway, the team can use the 3-blackboard method to
systematically define the goals, describe the organization of the care process and develop a list of topics for further analysis.
The 3-blackboard method is a consensus development exercise which can be used for pathway projects but also during
other quality and patient safety improvement exercises.
