In this interview Enright talks about the importance of physical memory; how she is inspired by the ways in which mythology and Catholicism (especially the martyr stories) present cruelty. In her fascination with the exteriority of things (deeds versus intentions, cf. St James's letter) she focuses on the way in which the body harbours or leaks emotions. This in-betweenness where motions and emotions interact is what Enright tries to catch by using "hyperrealism", a style in which metaphor turns into metamorphosis.
