Abstract:

Microelectrode arrays were used for monitoring the impact of Alzheimer's amyloid oligomers on hippocampal neurons. Micromolar concentrations of Aβ 42 oligomers, but not fibrils, potently inhibited spontaneous electrical activity of the cells; the effect was partially reversible. The significance of the method for Alzheimer's disease research is studied. © 2009 Springer-Verlag.
