This study is part of the development of a custom motion analysis protocol for more accurate measurement of knee rotations.
Standard gait analysis protocols do not yet provide reliable information about three-dimensional knee kinematics, as limitations are introduced by measurement variability and skin motion which exceed the small knee ab/adduction and axial rotation. The present study deals with these limitations by analyzing 11 motor tasks in
a repeated measures design, in order to identify those that may be adequately accurate and sensitive for evaluating the knee in three dimensions. Ideal tasks would have repeatability comparable to walking and larger knee rotations out of the sagittal plane, so that a
decrease in range ofmotion (ROM) among pathologic patientsmay be easier to detect.
