Abstract:

The Turkish migrant community is in many European countries one of the largest minority groups. Although the Turks have lived for many decades in different European countries, they remain rather marginalized in the host societies. This study looks into the socio-economic position of the Turkish population in Austria and Belgium, two relatively small countries. Although there are many differences and similarities between both countries and although many success stories can be found on an individual level, the main conclusion that can be drawn in this contribution is that many Turkish immigrants fail to integrate and/or to find their position in their host societies.
