Abstract: The analysis of censored data is a major issue in survival studies. Censored data are together with truncated data, missing data, current status data, and others, among the complex data structures in which only partial information on the variable(s) of interest is available. In this article, we discuss the various types of censoring mechanisms and review the basic statistical procedures for right random censored data, including maximum likelihood estimation of parameters of the distribution, nonparametric estimation of the cumulative distribution function, and estimation of the cumulative hazard function. We briefly discuss two of the most popular regression models for censored data and review estimation under the proportional
hazards model.
