Abstract: In 1596 Archduke Albert of Austria arrived in Brussels. True to the tradition, the capital of the Spanish Netherlands received its new governor with pompous festivities. Eight formerly unknown designs for the archducal entry, all by the Brussels's artist Hendrick De Clerck, show an exceptional image programme, which in this article is described and analysed.
