Abstract: Post-stimulus EMG complexes (PSECs) were elicited by means of electrical stimulation of the gingiva in six subjects during clenching in three biting positions, namely the maximal occlusion, the incisor edge-to-edge and the hyperpropulsive biting position. No interrelationship was found between the mechanically and electrically elicited PSECs. With electrical stimulation the PSEC morphology was not related to the biting position in contrast with the PSECs elicited with mechanical stimulation. Following gingival electrical stimulation, a P wave was not present in the PSEC.
