Abstract: In this article, I connect Deleuze with a specifically Christian theological ‘spiritual politics’, namely liberation theology. Can Deleuze’s thinking become a new mediation (after Marx) for liberation theology? I test this research question by connecting the theology of feminist liberation theologian Marcella Athaus-Reid with Deleuze’s intuitions. Althaus-Reid and Deleuze share a particular interpretation of the Freudo-Marxist metahpysics. But since Althaus-Reid’s metaphysics mostly remains implicit, we can deepen and strengthen her theology with Deleuze’s works. Moreover, some core problems in Althaus-Reid’s theology concerning her notion of sexuality and politics, can be better understood and partially solved when mediated by a Deleuzian metaphysics.
