OBJECTIVES: Crohn's disease (CD) is a chronic multifactorial disorder with diverse clinical features that are influenced by a heterogeneous set of genetic factors. TNF-alpha/TNF receptor interactions play a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of the inflammatory response. Our purpose was to determine whether single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the TNF receptors confer susceptibility to Crohn's disease and whether they are associated with clinical phenotype.
