Abstract: To avoid damaging the finished surface due to hard mechanical contact through clamping, a method for fixing on optical surface is developed based on UV-curable adhesives. A unique setup has been developed, where a small volume of adhesive fills the gaps between the workpiece and a few predefined gripping spots. UV light is then applied to cure the adhesive on those gripping points, whereby the workpiece is clamped for manufacturing process. Experiments on a prototype chuck system indicate high clamping stiffness and the performance of this chuck is reported in this paper.
