Abstract: The United Nations and the European Union: an ever stronger partnership provides a comprehensive overview of this EU-UN cooperation, identifying the role of the various actors involved in the decision-making process and its influence in several areas. EU and UN experts, diplomats and scholars have contributed this book, on the one hand, giving an overview of the institutional aspects of EU-UN cooperation, on the other hand looking at its actual influence in areas such as human rights protection, crisis management, the promotion of sustainable development, public health and cultural matters. Here, the underlying question is to assess whether the EU’s profession of ‘effective multilateralism’ has truly led to a mutually beneficial partnership. The combination of these two dimensions allows us to identify the main strengths and weaknesses of the present state of EU-UN cooperation.
