Abstract: Recently semiconductor particle detectors, operational at low temperatures (4 K), have been incorporated in the low temperature nuclear orientation apparatus at ISOLDE-CERN. First test experiments with standard room temperature preamplifier components revealed a resolution of 4 keV at a 160 keV conversion electron line. This technical development makes it possible to study the anisotropic emission of alpha- and beta-particles, conversion electrons and X-rays from oriented nuclei at the nuclear orientation facility at ISOLDE in addition to the standard gamma-detection. Furthermore, we discovered that at 4 K the Si detectors are automatically fully depleted.
