Abstract:

Some of the conventional justifications for the two-particle resonance-pole dominance approximations in three-particle calculations are re-examined and found defective. It is also seen, on the basis of some simple model calculations, that the sharpness of a resonance is not necessarily a reliable indicator of the dominance of the off-shell amplitude by the resonance, even for parametric energies in its neighborhood. The physical implications and consequences of resonance-pole dominance are discussed. © 1970 Società Italiana di Fisica.
