Abstract: Symposium: New trends in personality assessment in children.
There is considerable evidence and consensus among personality researchers that developmental antecedents of the adult Big Five personality dimensions can be observed in the behaviour of primary school children. The past five years, an international collaborative group of developmental and personality psychologists constructed broad-band personality inventories for children. Although all teams involved in this project followed a common emic approach starting from parental free descriptions, different procedures were applied for final test construction. This symposium goes beyond questionnaire construction and focuses on applications of these measures in normal, subclinical and clinical samples of children investigating their validity to assess problem behaviour and predict school achievement (Programme book, page 116).
