Abstract: To achieve reproducible and deterministic positioning of the workpiece at a defined position relative to the tool and with submicron accuracy, a new concept for workpiece handling and alignment solution is developed at KULeuven. A method of gripping a workpiece on its finished optical surface without hard contact is developed, and a solution for direct alignment of a workpiece based on this technique for double-side machining is proposed.
