Abstract: Deaf and hearing people have very different views on the ethical aspects of cochlear implantation, sign language use, and inclusion of deaf children into regular schools. This difference comes forth from a difference in worldview, deafness and having normal hearing being different "world generating states". These competing worldviews cannot be reconciled by a halfway compromise, but only by continuous negotiation.
