Abstract: The modern history of the classifications of renal
neoplasm begins in 1981, with the distinction into
adenoma and carcinoma proposed by the World
Health Organization (WHO) [1]. In 1986, the Mainz
classification proposed distinguishing epithelial
kidney malignancies into six groups (clear cell,
chromophobe, chromophilic, mixed types, and
undifferentiated) according to the different cytologic
and architectural characteristics [2].
