Title: Territorial Party Politics in Western Europe
Editors: Swenden, Wilfried
Maddens, Bart
Issue Date: 2009
Publisher: Palgrave-Macmillan
Abstract: This book offers new empirical evidence on the territorial organization and strategies of state-wide parties in five federal or regionalized states in Western Europe: Belgium, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK.Taking into account that federalism and party research are commonly two very distinct strands of research, the prime merit of this book and it contributors is that they overcome this gap by bringing these 'alien' approaches together. It fills a gap in the literature, especially with regard to the adaptive strategies of state-wide parties in decentralizing European countries. The volume will be of major interest for researchers interested in party politics and/or territorial politics. There is a growing academic community dealing with these issues. The volume provides the first systematic attempt to study the strategy of state-wide parties on the basis of the comparative literature on issue voting.
