Abstract: Phase-field modeling has proven to be a valid tool for simulating the evolution of the grain structure in polycrystalline materials. However, its computational requirements pose severe limitations on the number of grain orientations that can be considered in a practical simulation. In this talk, we discuss the mathematical and computational aspects of large-scale three-dimensional phase-field simulations of the evolution of grain structures with misorientation dependent grain boundary properties.
