Abstract: In this article I demostrate that despite the fact that Centesimus annus and The Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Catholic Church offer a very conditional approval of capitalism, the neo-liberal agenda has gained influence and this is particularly evident in the rejection of the social-assistance state and the subordination of justice to a discourse of love and solidarity.
