EMPHASIS: The emphasis is on the novel strategy of active specific immunotherapy using dendritic cells as antigen-presenting cells, especially its theoretical concepts and advantages, specific requirements, critical issues, pre-clinical and early clinical experience. Dendritic cell vaccination is situated in the diversity of other immunotherapeutical approaches. FURTHER DISCUSSION: Future directions, challenges, and drawbacks will be discussed.
