Abstract: A vascularized fascia flap may be used as a vascular carrier for free mucosal and cartilage grafts. This composite reconstruction technique has been performed in clinical situations with complex laryngeal or tracheal defects. This paper describes the technique and the rationale for applying this concept to some particular laryngotracheal defects. Morphologic and histologic aspects of this composite reconstruction technique using a transferable recipient bed are discussed.
