Abstract:

A system has been developed in order to evaluate in an analytical way muscle force and activity during exercises of different types (e. g. isometric, concentric and eccentric loads). Principles of construction of the device and the application on selected extensor muscles of the knee are discussed. It is shown how the measurement of the mechanical load in a joint and of the corresponding EMG-activity lead to a quantitative description of some biomechanical characteristics of muscle force in isolated joint movements.
