Abstract: A case is presented that illustrates the possible role of significant life events and depression in the etiology of the burning mouth syndrome. Furthermore, successful treatment with a combination of a selective serotonin re-uptake blocking antidepressant (sertraline) and psychodynamically oriented psychotherapy is described.
