Abstract: Since 1979 much attention has been payed in the literature to the presence and importance of estrogen- and progesterone-receptors in meningiomas. The existence of these receptors seems to be proven, but the question about their biological activity is not solved conclusively. If the hypothesis of a biological activity of the estrogen- and progesterone-receptors in meningiomas is confirmed, some patients could benefit from a hormonal therapy.
