The conversion of heptane in presence of hydrogen on Pt/H-Beta zeolite occurs via a complex interplay of mono- and bimolecular bifunctional mechanisms and platinum catalyzed hydrogenolysis. The metal loading, and more in particular the metal/acid balance, determines the contribution of the different reaction mechanisms and the nature of the reaction products. Significant improvement of the catalytic performance can be obtained by optimizing the technique of platinum loading on the zeolite.
