Abstract: Pressure is an important environmental parameter that varies greatly throughout the biosphere. In surface-adapted bacteria, such as Escherichia coli, high-pressure (HP) shock greatly perturbs cellular homeostasis. Nevertheless, the cellular impact of HP stress and the actual damage it provokes remain poorly characterized. One approach to address this lack of insight is to probe the cell's genetic response to HP shock. This survey highlights the recent advancements in the characterization of the HP shock response, which seems to encompass parts of the heat shock, cold shock, and SOS response
