Abstract: Mergers and acquisitions have become essential ingredients in today's business world. In most cases, their announcement represents an abstract reality, which people tend to look at from a distance, in spite of all the studies that have demonstrated the dramatic consequences expected of the employees involved. However, things are different when they happen to you or to people you are close with. This study originates in an involvement with the local branch of a company that one day found itself to be the target of a takeover. It describes the astonishment and insecurity of the local management team, which saw its values and future jeopardized, and the way the team members tried to deal with the situation
