Abstract: Lotus Notes is regarded as setting the direction for groupware computing, at least on the commercial market. It also provides an application development environment. In this article Notes will be evaluated using a case study. The strengths will be indicated, in particular concerning the impact on the workflow in a typical administrative organisation. But also the weaknesses will be illustrated, both from a methodological, as well as from a functional and technical point of view. Finally, it will be discussed how these problems can be solved and what extensions are to be expected.
