Abstract:

As police services adopt new technologies to fight crime, numerous ethical, legal and privacy-related issues have presented themselves. In particular, the field of data analytics and crime intelligence analysis poses a number of threats to the human rights of privacy and data protection. In VALCRI, a computer system set to analyze large datasets and present accessible results to police analysts, these challenges are being addressed by a dedicated workgroup which has produced, among others, a data management policy and white papers aimed at developers.
