Abstract:

Retinopathy of prematurity still remains an important morbidity characteristic after preterm birth. Nowadays especially ELBW-infants are at increased risk. We describe preoperative management and long-term ophthalmologic outcome in our population. These infants display more instability shortly after surgery, making monitoring within intensive care setting necessary. Long-term ophthalmologic outcome variables improved significantly during the last decade in our population. Changes in perinatal care and changes in the characteristics of the population correlate with less severe forms of retinopathy.
